Boy
Kategorie: die Texte sind englisch, die Songs von Weltformat. Es sind elektrisierende Popstücke. Reich an Facetten, filigran arrangiert. Songstrukturen, die bisweilen an Leslie Feist erinnern. Nina Kinert kommt einem in den Sinn, skandinavisches Songwritertum. Aber auch Indie-Pop.Wie in "Drive". Der Song sagt: Volle Fahrt voraus! Valeska Steiner singt "Drive darling, drive". Boy geben Gas. Plötzlich sind da Beats, die gemahnen gar an Phoenix, die französischen Synthie-Rocker. Ganz von ungefähr kommt das nicht: Bei vier Stücken ist der Drummer der Band höchstpersönlich am Werk. Die Songs sind ausgereift. Seit Herbst 2008 haben Boy daran gearbeitet. An einem Popkurs in Hamburg haben sich die zwei jungen Frauen kennen gelernt. Valeska Steiner hatte zuvor als Singer-Songschreiberin in ihrer Heimat auf sich aufmerksam gemacht. Bassistin und Songschreiberin Sonja Glass kam von der renommierten Hochschule der Künste in Arnhem. "Als ich Valeskas Stimme gehört habe, war ich hin und weg", sagt Glass, "Mir war sogleich klar, dass ich mit ihr etwas machen möchte." Es beruhte auf Gegenseitigkeit: "Sonja hat mir erste Songfragmente gemailt - ich war begeistert!", erinnert sich Valeska Steiner. Boy war geboren. "This is the beginning", heißt es im Opener.
